The Frog: A Leap in the Right Direction

Adam Handling, discuss. Masterchef the Professionals finalist in 2015, then started cooking at St Ermin's Hotel; and Adam Handling at Caxton was born. Now don't get me wrong, I had a superb time enjoying Sherwin and Charles' beautiful company and Adam's stunning fare, however the latter just didn't gel with the space in the slightest. I'm all for a bit of juxtaposition, but this was a bridge too far.

So, a year on, I am delighted to be trotting over to East London to check out Adam Handling's tablecloth-less solo venture, The Frog, near the Old Truman Brewery. Craft beer is the name of the game here, but as I am with Sherwin and Charles, naturally we kick off with a bottle of bubbles, Blanc de Blancs on this occasion.

Snacks delight, in particular THAT beetroot cone. My recommendation is taking it down in one, especially if you're wearing a white dress. The beef-covered cracker is a close second. Some of my favourite flavour combinations in life are showcased across the menu; cue crab, avo and lime, or potato and tarragon, or what about wild garlic and asparagus. Handling can keep the pre dessert of almond, dill and milk but the strawberry and green tea makes as pretty a picture as the tiramisu makes for a showstopper.

There's not a drop of stuffiness in sight at The Frog, which in my view, is a leap in the right direction. I'll be back for brunch.
